CAM Workforce Development

A global leader in technical self-driving vehicle training programmes, Silvera built on its IMI EV training and PAS 1881 / PAS 1884 training expertise to develop AV Apprenticeship UK.

Autonomous Vehicle Training UK

Our firsthand experience of CAM skills shortages led us to create our own in-house training modules. These quickly matured into market-leading products. The Silvera Future-Ready AV Apprenticeship Programme covers SAE Level 2, 3 and 4 vehicle technologies and is designed to meet the immediate needs of the self-driving sector.

According to research by The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), self-driving could add £66bn to the UK economy and create 342,000 jobs by 2040. However, this ambitious target requires an equally ambitious commitment to developing a specialist CAM workforce.

Technological advancements in autonomy, electric powertrains, 5G connectivity, and AI-driven mobility solutions are accelerating at a pace that traditional academic routes and isolated corporate training programmes cannot match.

By partnering in the Silvera Future-Ready AV Apprenticeship programme, organisations not only secure early access to a pool of deployment-ready talent but also enhance their position as leaders in innovation and sustainability.

Partners gain the opportunity to influence curriculum design directly, ensuring that training is immediately relevant to evolving technological and regulatory demands, including emerging UNECE standards for cybersecurity and software update management.

Furthermore, collaboration within the apprenticeship framework will enable joint research and development opportunities, integration into operational pilot projects, and enhanced contributions to corporate social responsibility objectives.

This new Silvera AV Training module is an innovative addition to our existing IT skills courses. As well as teaching practical programming, it also serves as an introduction to automated mobility.

Programme phases

The programme consists of five interconnected phases, each crafted to build capabilities that align with future industry needs.

1

The initial phase, Foundational Learning, delivers core technical education in areas such as electric vehicle systems, automated perception, SDV architecture, and cybersecurity fundamentals.

2

This is followed by Stretch Assignments, where apprentices engage directly in operational projects, including live simulations and fleet deployments.

3

As apprentices mature, they will be exposed to cross-skilling opportunities, gaining adjacent capabilities across artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, sustainability analysis, and transport planning.

4

The programme culminates in an Innovation Leadership stage, where apprentices lead live capstone projects focused on deploying AV solutions in real-world environments.
