Self-Driving STEM Programme KS2 KS3

For the technicians of tomorrow, in UK KS2 and KS3, Silvera Auto Brain Gain teaches basic AV coding skills using pro-level Raspberry Pi autonomous car education tools.

Driverless Car Coding Schools UK

Silvera Auto Brain Gain enables school pupils with a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) to get hands-on with professional autonomous vehicle research and development (R&D) tools, learn basic coding, and ultimately create their own self-driving robot.

Aimed primarily at 7-14 year-olds, key stages 2 and 3 (KS2 and KS3), this innovative practical learning program is designed to tackle the UK’s well documented STEM skills shortage, and to support the Government’s ambition to make the UK a science superpower.

Most pupils, parents and teachers, even STEM enthusiasts, will never have seen anything like our Auto Brain Gain robots, let alone been encouraged to play with them. They bring real wow factor – capable of path following, obstacle avoidance, and light recognition.

Opening the door

The aim is to educate young learners in a fun way, and perhaps inspire them to consider a career in automotive. The Institute of the Motor Industry recently predicted that, to meet service and repair demand alone, the sector will require 106,000 technicians qualified to work with ADAS-equipped vehicles by 2030.

With all the focus on AI and machine learning, Silvera’s founder, Kenneth Clarke, is personally leading the Auto Brain Gain project.

“The automotive industry has given me so much – technical qualifications, a complete understanding of product life cycle, and important soft skills in communication, teamwork and adaptability,” he says. “I consider it a duty and a privilege to open that door for the next generation – the skills industry needs, aligned with emerging technologies and sustainability goals.”

Next steps

Auto Brain Gain is our AV STEM outreach programme for young learners. The next phase will be to train more trainers, develop more advanced courses for older age groups, introduce more cutting-edge EdTech training aids, and roll-out programs across the UK.

The dream scenario is for pupils to try it, discover they love coding, stay in touch with Silvera and later join our AV Apprenticeship Programme. This isn’t just a kids coding club, it is a vital part of our integrated approach to meeting UK CAM policy objectives.

We invite industry leaders, technology pioneers, public sector innovators, and research institutions to partner with us. Together, we can build a scalable, resilient workforce that will underpin the UK’s leadership in connected and automated mobility.
