CASE STUDY
UK AV Consulting: Smart Miles
Led by Silvera and backed by Zenzic, the organisation created by government and industry to champion the UK Connected and Automated Mobility (CAM) ecosystem, the Smart Miles project proposes using a fleet of 100% electric AV shuttles to deliver a sustainable new public transport solution along the Birmingham Airport ↔ Business Park corridor. Predicted benefits include an annual CO2 emissions saving of 150 metric tons through the elimination of 1,500 daily single-occupancy car journeys.
Intended to serve the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) World Congress in 2027, to date, the Smart Miles project has included: detailed route evaluations; Site Assessment Reports (SARs) relating to the Command Control Centre and other essential recharging and maintenance facilities; and compliance with standards ISO 26262 on functional safety, ISO 22737 on low-speed automated driving (LSAD), ISO/SAE 21434 on cybersecurity, and PAS 1881 on the operational safety of automated vehicles.
